Affidavit

 

On this 5th day of December 1904 before me a Notary Public in and for

Champaign County, Ohio personally came E. C. CURRY to me well known as

a reputable person who being duly sworn according to law deposes and

says that on July 11th, 1904 he was called to Newcastle Ind. to

investigate the murder of Mollie STARBUCK and her fifteen week old

baby and was duly employed and authorized to take full charge of said

case by William STARBUCK, C. M. CHRISTOPHER, Sheriff and Ed JACKSON

County Attorney. He further states that he secured a confession from

Haley Ollie GIPE in jail on July 24th 1904; and did secure other

evidence, secured the conviction of Said Haley Ollie [Go] GIPE, which

will sentence him to from two to twenty-one years in the States Prison

and that he is entitled to a reward for said services of $500.00 offered

by the Henry County, Indiana Commissioners for the arrest and conviction

of the person or person guilty of the crime of killing said Mollie STARBUCK

and her baby.

 

Haley Ollie SIPE after having been duly and legally tried by a jury of his

peers in Henry County, Indiana has been found guilty as herin before stated;

therefore, I the Said E. C. CURRY, Hereby make application for and claim the

reward from the County Commissioners and ask that the said sum of Five Hundred

($500.00) Dollars be paid to me for the said services.
