Grover Browning Dies in Minnesota; Founded Bus Line Here 30 Years Ago

J.G. (Grover) Browning, age 61, 1153 Woodlawn drive, former owner of the Browning Bus Line company, who founded the bus line in New Castle nearly 30 years ago, died this morning at 9 o'clock in Rochester, Minn., where he had undergone an operation a week ago yesterday.

Mr. Browning took a turn for the worse yesterday and the family was called.

Mr. Browning, a native of Greensburg, came to New Castle in 1913 and started in the jitney bus business, eventually taking control of the city's public transportation business. He was very successful in this and in addition to the bus business operated a filling station on Walnut St. near the Nickle Plate railroad.

Mr. Browning disposed of his business a few months ago to Tom Carman and retired from active business. Mr. Browning believed in the future of New Castle and the company celebrated its 25th anniversary on Sept 5, 1941.

He was a member of the Baptist church and was a member of the New Castle Masonic lodge.

Surviving are the widow and 7 children, Mrs. Arthur Burton, Cincinnati; Mrs. Rex Daubenspeck, Mrs. Kenneth Birch, Carol Browning and Russell Browning, both serving overseas in the U.S. Army, John and Betty Browning, at home.

The body has been directed to New Castle and will arrive here Saturday morning. Funeral arrangements are held in abeyance, pending the arrival of the body.
