Hubert Caldwell, Auto Dealer, Dies Here After Long Illness

Hubert E. Caldwell, 54, of 203 S. 8th Street., died in his home this morning following an illness of about a year. Born in Hartford City, he had lived the last forty-four years in New Castle.

He was a partner in the Caldwell Lincoln-Mercury Agency here. A member of the First Christian Church, he also belonged to the Elks Lodge, the Masonic Lodge and the Eagles.

Prior to entering the automobile business, he operated a grocery on North 9th Street and later was in the coal business with his brother, William.

Surviving are the wife, Ona Marie; a brother, William M.; an aunt, Miss Carrie Ellis of New Castle; an uncle, George B. Ellis of Whittier, Calif.; a niece, Miss Belinda Caldwell; and a nephew, George Caldwell of New Castle.

Funeral services will be held at the Main and Sons funeral home Monday at 2 p.m. with Rev. R. Melvyn Thompson officiating. Burial will be in South Mound Cemtery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 2 p.m. Sunday.

Memorial services by the fraternal orders will be dispensed with at the request of the family, but members are welcome to call.
