Jess Plunkett, 78, Retired Shoe Shop Owner, Is Dead

Jess S. Plunkett, 78, husband of Mrs. Lola Plunkett, 629 S. 18th St., died in Boxwood Nursing Home this morning following an illness of several months.

Survivors with the wife are two stepdaughters, Mrs. Pierce (Beulah) Vaughn of Greensboro and Mrs. Jack (Doris) Armstrong of R. 1; one stepson, E.B. Caldwell of R. 1; one sister, Mrs. Luther (Bertha) Smith of New Castle; nine step-grandchildren and 12 great-stepgrandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Plunkett owned and operated Plunkett's Shoe Shop, 1817 A Ave., for many years, retiring in 1965. Prior to operating the shoe shop, he served as fire chief in New Castle for 15 years. He attended the First Nazarene Church.

Friends may call at the Macer Funeral Home after 4 p.m. Friday. Funeral services will be in the funeral home at 2 p.m. Saturday with Rev. Robert Ellis in charge. Burial will follow in South Mound cemetery.
