J.J. Poindexter, Messick Farmer, Dies in Hospital

John J. Poindexter, 84, a well-known farmer of the Messick community, died Monday evening in the Henry County hospital following an illness of three weeks. Mr. Poindexter was a native of North Carolina and had lived here since 1901. He was a member of the Nazarene church.

Surviving are five daughters, Mrs. Gill Watkins, New Castle, Mrs. Ed Swoveland, of near Messick, Mrs. Thurman Rosaa, Mooreland, Mrs. Frank Manning, Cleveland, O., and Mrs. Raymond Martin, New Castle; two step-daughters, Mrs. John Hill and Mrs. Robert Choplin, both of Winston-Salem, N.C.; three sons, John Poindexter Jr., Dublin, Robert of New Castle and Archie of Parker; two step-sons, Luther and Tom Smith, New Castle; 23 grandchildren and 40 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted Thursday afternoon at 2:30 in the North Christian church, Mooreland, with Rev. Carl Hilbert and Rev. John Hancock officiating. Burial will be in the Mooreland cemetery. Friends may call at the the Main and Sons funeral home in Mooreland after 7 o'clock this evening.
