Jesse H. Shepherd, 87, Spiceland, prominent retired Franklin Township Farmer, died Friday evening at the Henry County Hospital.
A lifelong resident of Henry County, Mr. Shepherd had long been active in Republican party politics and had served as Franklin Township assessor and county highway superintendent.
He headed the county road department in 1936 and 1937.
He was a member of the Rich Square Friends Church, the Masonic Lodge of Spiceland and the Lewisville Order of Eastern Star.
He is survived by his wife Maude who is a patient in Henry County Hospital; two daughters, Mrs. Gurney Gray, wife of the county auditor, and Mrs. Ivan Hodson, both of New Castle; three sons, Horace and Dwight, both of New Castle, and Robert Shepherd of Detroit; 13 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Friends may call at the Stanley Mortuary after 7 p.m. today.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Spiceland Friends Church with Rev. Earl Prignitz officiating.
The body will be taken to the church one hour prior to the services. Burial will be in the Lewisville Cemetery.
