Casher A. Smith, retired farmer, Chrysler Corp. employee

Casher A. Smith, 91, of Route 5, New Castle, died Tuesday evening in Henry County Memorial Hospital after a short illness.

Born June 27, 1897, in Albany, Ky., he was a son of Lafayett and Addie Cross Smith. He had lived most of his life in Henry County. He attended South Side Church of the Nazarene and had farmed in the Mt. Summit community and worked as a machine operator at Chrysler Corp. for 30 years, retiring in 1962. He was a member of UAW 371, Sulphur Springs Masonic Lodge No. 348, Sulphur Springs Order of Eastern Star, New Castle Council No. 53, Commandery No. 44, and Chapter No. 50.

Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Ollie Mable Frogge Smith; seven daughters, Mrs. Barney (Florence) Pfenninger, Mrs. Fannie Beall, and Mrs. Darrell (Ruth) Burd, all of New Castle, Mrs. Flora McCormick of Anderson, Mrs. Joseph (Shirley) Owen of Daleville, Mrs. Arthur (Irene) Rehbein of Phoenix, Ariz., and Mrs. Norman (Mary) Shaw of Lynchburg, Va.; two sons, Charles M. Smith of Anderson and James Robert Smith of Yorktown; 30 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; four sisters, Mrs. Ann Patton of Chatham, Ill., Mrs. Elizabeth Branham of Cambridge City, Mrs. Lillian Gray and Mrs. Ina Abbott, both of Albany; and a brother, Bill Smith of Albany.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at South Side Church of the Nazarene with the Rev. Rick D. Curry officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Summit Cemetery. Friends may call 2 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Couden-Hostetler Funeral Home with Sulphur Springs Masonic Lodge memorial services scheduled for 8:30 pm. Thursday at the funeral home.
