|JONES||I am researching my great-grandfather, Mathew Jones (sometimes spelled
"Matthew"). He was born April 16, 1842 in Henry County, Indiana. I do
not know the names of his parents, just that according to the 1880 U.S.
Census, both were born in Virginia. His father may have also been named
"Mat(t)hew"; his mother possibly Nancy. I do not know where in Henry
County he was born, nor when his parents came to the county. I have no
information on siblings.
When my great-grandfather was very young, his parents died and he was indentured out to a Cornelius Quick. According to his obituary, he went to work for Mr. Quick when he was age 15. Thus far, I have found no information on Mr. Quick, but have only recently started working on my Jones line.
It is possible that Mathew Jones grew up in Delaware County or Mr. Quick lived in the county. When he was only 18, he married Elizabeth Black of Muncie, Delaware County. Mathew Jones organized a company of soldiers and served as their Captain during the Civil War. I have obtained his military record. He later moved to Illinois and became a minister in the Christian Church. Judith Hollenberg

|Lt. McCune and my relative, Lt. LeRoy Mayne both served in the Federal counter guerilla unit on the Mississippi River known as the Mississippi Marine Brigade or MMB. |PARKHURST||I recently discovered that my ancestors came from Henry county. Settled in north part of Knightstown, Wayne Twp. I believe that my fourth great grandfather was Jacob Parkhurst Sr.. I discovered that he was one of the pioneers of that region. He was part of the Concord Bapist Church, and I discovered last weekend that he and thirteen other of his primary family are buried in the Old Pioneer Cemetery. I was excited to find him, and that his marker was readable. There are about three more headstones that are readable of Jacobs granddaughters. My questions for you are, Is there records of burial plots? Is there any possible pictures of the old cemetery? Who do I contact that is in charge of the cemetery? Thank you for your time, Jonathan Parkhurst|

|I'm trying to piece together some family history. My Father's
name is Dale F. Rector - Birth Certificate indicates born in
Wayne County, July 6, 1917, but he lived and grew up in Middletown.
All references that I can find to his siblings and parents are
from Henry County. My confusion is with his Mother (my grandmother).
Dale's birth certificate indicates father is Dick Rector and mother
is Mamie Riley born in Indiana. His death certificate states Dick
Rector as father, but states his Mother as Manie Riley, born in
Virginia. The Henry County website of Riley births
and marriages adds to my confusion.
Dick is shown as Father to Anna (my aunt), George (my uncle) both of whom I knew, as well as James and Richard, who I have no knowledge of. Dale did have another brother, my uncle Weldon Rector, who I have also met, but as with my father's name, there is no mention of my fathers other brother,Weldon. Don Rector

|I am particularly interested in finding out what happened to William Owen Wood (b. 1856 in Henry County).
My grandmother believes he drowned when his children were very young (probably around 1879), but we don't know
the circumstances surrounding his death as no one would discuss it with my grandmother growing up.
I am also wondering what happened to his youngest daughter, Maud Wood. She was born in approximately 1879. She was separated from her sister Lola (my great-great-grandmother) because their mother could not take care of both of them. lola was raised by their grandparents and their mother kept Maud. We know they both lived with their mother (Mary Chew) and grandparents during the 1880 US Census, but they were separated shortly after that and we don't know what happened to Maud.
Any information would be greatly appreciated. Erin Spain
