George Daniel Ackerman Jr.

George Daniel Ackerman Jr., 85, of Seymour and formerly of North Vernon, died at 8:10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 2, 2002, at Memorial Hospital in Seymour after an extended illness.

Mr. Ackerman was an independent truck driver for 40 years, retiring in 1985, and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He enjoyed fishing and hunting.

Born July 7, 1916, in Ashland, Ky., he was a son of George D. Ackerman Sr. and Mary Boll Ackerman. He married Letha Harvey, who died in 1991.

Survivors include four sons, Marvin Ackerman and John Ackerman, both of North Vernon, Kenneth Ackerman, Phillips Ranch, Calif., and Dan Ackerman, Olive Hill, Ky.; five daughters, Janie Russell, North Vernon, Mary Bohannon, Columbus, Jan Martin, Nashville, Ginger Ackerman, Atlanta, Ga., and Jeannie Wilder, Indianapolis; 13 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, John and Paul Ackerman.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Dove-Sharp and Rudicel Funeral Home in North Vernon. Burial will be in the Moravian Cemetery at Hope.
