Garry J. Akers Obituary
Seymour TribuneGarry J. Akers, 58, of Seymour and formerly of Jennings County, passed away at 5:20 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 30, 2008, at his home with his family by his side.
Mr. Akers previously worked at Aisin and as a mechanic at a coal mine. He was in the armed forces, serving his country as a Vietnam veteran. He also was a member of Broadway Pentecostal Church, Austin. He was a wonderful and loving husband, father and papaw. He enjoyed fishing and liked to grill, his family naming him "Chef of the Year," and having Muffy, his little dog, as the family pet.
Born July 25, 1950, he was the son of the James Edward and Bessie Smith Akers, both of whom preceded him in death. On Oct. 27, 1972, he married Gail Brock Akers, who survives in Seymour.
Other survivors include two daughters, Angelica Akers and Darla Akers; two grandsons, Steven Gilbert and Derick Sowers, all of Seymour; three brothers, James D. (Sara) Akers, Orlando, Fla., Charley (Carma) Akers, Deputy, and Paul (Dianna) Akers, Sandy Springs, Okla.; five sisters, Clara (Troy) Campbell, Crothersville, Josie (Ronnie) Sawyer, Crothersville, his twin, Sherry (James) Colwell, Scottsburg, Janita Pennington, Austin, and Debbie (Jerry) Ousley, Austin; his father-in-law, Dill (Elsie) Brock, Crothersville; and his mother-in-law, Betty (Ray) Waddell Dismore, Citra, Fla.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Joyce M. Akers-Plessinger and Wanda Grigsby, and a brother, Billy Akers.
Brother Don Burns and Brother Jerry Ousley will conduct funeral services at 12:30 p.m. Sunday at Adams Funeral Home, Crothersville, with burial to follow at Cana Cemetery.
Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. today and from 10:30 a.m. until time of service Sunday at the funeral home.
