Johnny Roy Baker Obituary

Tribune - January 26, 2010 Veteran

Johnny Roy Baker, 89, Norman, passed away at 11:52 a.m. Monday, Jan. 25, 2010, at the home of his son, Johnny W. and Marie Baker.

Mr. Baker served in the Army Medical Corps during World War II and was retired from General Motors Powertrain in Bedford after 30 years. He was a faithful member of Brownstown Church of the Nazarene.

Born in Lawrence County, near Leesville, he was the son of Shirley L. and Edith Luallen Baker, both of whom preceded him in death. He married Anna Mary Henderson on Feb. 3, 1940, and she survives.

Other survivors include one daughter, Judith Ann Green (Morris) Hanner, Kurtz; two sons, Johnny W. (Marie) Baker, Leesville, and David Lee (Carolyn) Baker, Norman; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and two sisters, Mamie Ray, Solsberry, and Elsie Ryan, Norman.

He was preceded in death by one great-grandchild; a twin sister, Helen Glover; and three brothers, Charles, Lester and Russell.

The Rev. Ben Durr will conduct funeral services at 10 a.m. Thursday at Brownstown Church of the Nazarene. Burial will take place at Leesville Cemetery.

Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday and from 9 a.m. until time of service Thursday at the church.
