John R. Barnes Obituary
Tribune - November 6, 2010John R. Barnes, 79, Uniontown, passed away at 11 a.m. Thursday, November 4, 2010, at his home with his family by his side.
Mr. Barnes was a lifelong resident of Jackson County, living on the family farm where he was born March 17, 1931, to Arthur C. and Ruby Naomi Grantham Barnes, both of whom preceded him in death.
Mr. Barnes retired from Arvin after working 17 years. He was a bus driver for Crothersville Community Schools for 28 years and served as the Vernon Township trustee for 16 years in the early 1970s. He was a livestock dealer his whole life and was a member of Apostolic Pentecostal Tabernacle in Seymour. He enjoyed hunting and horseback riding and playing country and bluegrass music.
He married Margaret Irene Estes Barnes on September 25, 1948, and they had been together for 62 years.
Other survivors include four sons, John Michael (Lynn) Barnes, Scottsburg, David Wayne (Suzanne) Barnes, Uniontown, Jerry A. (Joyce) Barnes, Columbus, and Jeffrey Lynn Barnes, Indianapolis; seven grandchildren, Jennifer M. (Brian) Phillips, Alabama, Erika Lynn (Billy) Mattul, Florida, Derrick Ray Barnes, Indiana, Tiffany (Brock) Vorhies, Ohio, Rowdy Deaton, Indiana, Steven Wayne Barnes, Indiana, and Andrew Lynn Barnes, Indiana; nine great-grandchildren; several stepgrandchildren and stepgreat-grandchildren; and one brother, Walter R. "Bob" Barnes, Flagstaff, Arizona.
He was preceded in death by a son, Garry B. Barnes; four brothers; and two sisters.
Jerry Ousley will conduct funeral services at 1 p.m. Sunday at Adams Funeral Home, Crothersville. Burial will follow at Uniontown Cemetery.
