Milley Catherine Beckort Obituary

Milley Catherine Beckort, 86, Rockport, passed away, Sunday, January 16, 2011, at Miller's Merry Manor, Rockport.

Mrs. Beckort was a graduate of Earlham College and Purdue University. She taught English at the Himeji Girls School in Himeji, Japan, from 1948 until 1951. Milley also worked at the Indiana Cooperative Extension Service as the Perry County home demonstration agent from 1955 until 1959. She was the business manager and homemaker of the family farm. Milley volunteered for the Rain Tree Girl Scout Council and taught release time education in Rockport for many years. She also taught adult women's Sunday school at Larkin Baptist Church.

Born July 28, 1924, in Penn Township, Parke County, she was the daughter of Leland and Achsa Carter Chapman, both of whom preceded her in death.

Survivors include her husband, William A. "Bill" Beckort, Rockport; children, Martha Beckort, Corydon, Eleisa Atkinson and her husband, Howard, Eben, Michigan, and Richard Beckort and his wife, Ellen, Seymour; grandchildren, Andy Beckort, Aaron Beckort, Alex Atkinson, Andrea Blum and her husband, Deric, and Heather Humphry and her husband, Scotty; five great-grandchildren; sister, Madeline Craycraft and her husband, Bill, Bloomingdale; sisters-in-law, Rosie Beckort and Mazel Beckort, both of Rockport, and Marceil Chapman, Rockville; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Theoren Chapman.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, at Boultinghouse Funeral Home, Rockport. Burial will take place at Oak Grove Cemetery, Patronville.

Friends may call from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, and from 9 a.m. until time of service Thursday at the funeral home.
