Gene Ray Butts Obituary

Gene Ray Butts, 82, Marietta, Georgia, died Thursday, October 26, 2006.
Born in Brazil, Indiana, Mr. Butts had been a resident of Cobb County, Georgia, for the past 43 years. He was in sales and leasing for 40 years and a former general manager for Downtown Chevrolet in Terre Haute. He was one of the original founding members of World Gospel Church, Terre Haute.
He served in the 8th Army Air Corps, where he was a radio operator and waist-gunner in a B-24. He was shot down over Austria and was awarded three Bronze Service Stars in World War II. He was a chaplain for Marietta Fire Department 2 for 30 years. He was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his wife, Charlotte Ballinger Butts, Marietta; two sons and daughters-in-law, Brent and Cathy Butts and Bradley and Cathy Butts, all of Marietta; two daughters and sons-in-law, Brenda and Terry Peagler, Charlotte, N.C., and Benita and Frank Padgett, Mineral Bluff, Georgia; two sisters, Nina Bettenbrock, Cory, and Reba Schopmeyer, Washington, D.C.; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday at Cheatham Hill Memorial Park Cemetery, Marietta.
Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Carmichael Funeral Home, Marietta.
Memorials may be given to the Disabled Veterans or to the Gideons.
