Georgianna (VanHoesen) Carter Obituary
Tribune - January 27, 2010Georgianna VanHoesen Carter, 95, passed away Monday, January 25, 2010, in Carmel.
Mrs. Carter was a 1936 graduate of Purdue University and a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma. She lived most of her adult life in Evansville and was an avid basketball fan of the Purple Aces, Boilermakers and the Pacers. She was a member of Evansville Methodist Temple. An avid bird lover, Georgianna was a tireless volunteer and fundraiser for Wesselman Nature Center from its inception until she moved to Carmel in 2002. She was Emeritus Board member for the Wesselman Nature Society until time of her passing. She was a charter member of the Rolling Hills Country Club, and loved playing golf, gardening and art and was a wonderful homemaker. Most of all she loved spending time with her family.
Born May 6, 1914, in Veedersburg, she was the daughter of George and Essie VanHoesen, both of whom preceded her in death. While attending Purdue, she met her late husband, Robert B. Carter, and they married in 1936.
Survivors include three children, Robert B. (Janet) Carter II, Carmel, JoAnn (Doug) Baillie, Marco Island, Florida, and Nancy Lynn (Jerry) Brubaker, Jacksonville, Florida; nine grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her three siblings, Web, Betty and Ellen.
The family wishes to express its thanks and profound gratitude to the staff at Manor Care at Summer Trace for their kind, loving care.
A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday at Flanner and Buchanan Carmel Funeral Center.
Friends may call from 4 p.m. until time of service.
Burial will take place Friday at Riverview Cemetery in Seymour.
