John W. Clerkin Jr. Obituary

John W. Clerkin Jr., 82, North Vernon, died Monday, December 31, 2001, at his home.
He was an Air Force veteran of World War II and was past chairman of the Jennings County Democrat Party. He served as Jennings County Auditor from 1959 to 1962. He was an avid card player and enjoyed horse racing. He had retired as an auditor for the Indiana State Board of Accounts. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2021, Knights of Columbus St. Bernard Council and St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
Born January 28, 1919, in North Vernon, he was the son of John W. Clerkin Sr. and Anna Schuck. On Nov. 8, 1944, in Norwich, England, he married Hannah Angland, who preceded him in death.
Survivors include a daughter, Maureen Clerkin, Louisville; two sons, Dennis Clerkin, Bloomington, and Jerry Clerkin, New Albany; and a granddaughter, Amanda Barge, Bloomington.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Ann Marie Clerkin; a son, John W. Clerkin; and a sister, Louise “Pete” Clerkin.
The Rev. Herman Lutz will conduct funeral services at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, North Vernon. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
