Elmo Lee "Sonny" Coker Obituary

Veteran Elmo Lee "Sonny" Coker passed away March 26, 2010, in Peoria, Arizona.

Sonny worked in many areas of the automotive repair industry, including auto body repair, paint and restorations, and was the owner of Sonny's Body Shops in Columbus, Phoenix and Tempe, Arizona.

He served in the U.S. Army and the Army Reserves where he specialized in heavy equipment and wheeled vehicle repair from 1953 to 1965. Sonny lived in Jackson and Bartholomew counties before moving to the Phoenix area in the mid-1970s.

Born June 24, 1933, in Crothersville, he was the son of William and Maria Coker, both of whom preceded him in death.

Sonny is survived by his wife, June Howard Coker; daughter, Vicki (Roy) Rogers; sisters, Marian (William) Toppe, Wilma (Jim) Forbes and Linda (Richard) Schrader; grandsons, Chadd (Kay) Rogers and Joshua Rogers; four great-grandchildren; an aunt; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his brother, William "Bud" Coker; two infant sisters; and his grandson Scott Rogers.

A graveside service will be held in Sonny's honor at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona, Phoenix, Arizona.

Arrangements have been entrusted to East Resthaven Park Mortuary and Cemetery.
