Velta Marie (Silence) Douglas Obituary
Seymour Tribune - October 20, 2009Velta Marie Douglas, 77, Hartsville, died at 11:20 a.m. Monday, October 19, 2009, at Columbus Regional Hospital.
Marie was highly active at First Church of the Nazarene, where she was a member. She was formerly employed with the Bartholomew Consolidated School Corp. in the cafeteria at Rockcreek Elementary School and at Miller's Merry Manor as a housekeeper. Marie was a loving mother and grandmother.
Born May 17, 1932, at Brownstown, she was the daughter of Charles Peter Silence and Faye England Silence, both of whom preceded her in death. On October 14, 1960, she married James E. Douglas, who survives.
Other survivors include sons, Ronald D. (Peggy) Strong, Seymour, and Steven Ray Douglas, Pearland, Texas; a daughter, Connie (Gene) Kimbler, North Vernon; a sister, Ruth Ann Blount, Oklahoma; and grandchildren, Troy, David and Russell Strong, Lori Fields, Kristy Carpenter, Shane Kimbler, Sandy Kiewitt, Ruth Ann Koner, Ronnie Jo Crosier, Darla Price, Wendy Flach and Stephen Douglas Jr.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Ruth Ann Strong Betz; brothers, Bob Silence, Melvin Silence, Marvin Silence and Lloyd Silence; and a sister, Thelma Huff.
The Rev. Bryan Soloman will conduct funeral services at 11 a.m. Thursday at First Church of the Nazarene. Burial will take place at Flat Rock Baptist Cemetery.
Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Jewell-Rittman Funeral Home, Columbus, and from 10 a.m. to time of service Thursday at the church.
