John Henry Duwe, 81, Seymour, passed away at 6:52 p.m., Sunday, January 9, 2011, at Schneck Medical Center, Seymour.
Mr. Duwe was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Sauers. He served in the U.S. Army. He was a retired farmer and was a member of American Legion Post 89 in Seymour and a 50-year member of Jackson County Farm Bureau.
Born April 13, 1929, in Seymour, he was the son of William Frank and Clara Surenkamp Duwe, both of whom preceded him in death. On May 11, 1952, in Seymour, he married Thelma J. Stanfield, who preceded him in death on February 2, 1994.
Survivors include his children, Rhonda (Gary) Wessel, Janis (Gregg) Surenkamp, Clara (William) Bauserman and Sara (Brian) Cain; grandchildren, Scotty (Meagan) Wessel, Johnny (Loriann) Wessel, Cody Surenkamp, Kaylee Bauserman, Hunter Bauserman, Tanner Bauserman, Andrew Cain and Bailey Cain; great-grandchild, Gavin Wessel; sister, Loreda (Bill) Hendren; and brother, Everett (Elvera) Duwe.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Frances Darlage.
Pastor Craig Muhlbach will conduct a funeral service at 1 p.m. Thursday at St. John's Lutheran Church, Sauers. Burial will take place at St. John's Lutheran Cemetery, Sauers, with full military graveside rites conducted by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1925, American Legion Post 89, Disabled Veterans 47, Korean and Vietnam Veterans, all of Seymour. There will be a Voss dove release.
Friends may call from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Voss Chapel, Seymour, and from 11 a.m. until time of service Thursday at the church.
