Arthur Bartlett, Retired DeSoto Farmer, Is Dead

Arthur (Mike) Bartlett, 84, retired DeSoto area farmer whose residence was at 3707 E. Jackson st., died Monday morning at Lewis Nursing Home in Pennville after an extended illness.

Mr. Bartlett, a Delaware County native, was a former marshal and water superintendent at Redkey.

He was the son of Thomas and Martha Bartlett, pioneer residents in the DeSoto area.  His first wife, Minnie, died in 1900.  His second wife, the former Gertrude Wheale, whom he married in 1903, died in 1950.

Mr. Bartlett belonged to White Chapel Christian Church.

Survivors include a son, Willard of St. George, Staten Island, N.Y.; three daughters, Mrs. Vecil Rex of Redkey, Mrs. Edwin Richey of Muncie and Mrs. Reba Hampton, widow of former Muncie Mayor John Hampton; a brother, Claude Bartlett of DeSoto; a sister, Mrs. Minnie Booher of Muncie, 10 grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.
