Mrs. Bertha C. Smith, 80, 104 Silvers Lane, Portland, died
Friday evening at the Parkview Nursing Home in Muncie. She had been in
failing health for three months.
She was born June 10, 1895 in Jay County, the daughter of W.D.
and Theodocia (Miller) Ashley. On Dec. 25, 1913, she was married to
Floyd Smith, who died Sept. 9, 1963. Mrs. Smith was a member of the
Little Salamonie United Church of Christ.
Surviving are one son, Ralph A. Smith, Desoto; one daughter,
Mrs. Darwin (Mildred) Huey, Portland; three sisters, Mrs. Nora Haines,
Portland; Mrs. Clint Sanders, Selma, and Mrs. Arlo Marsh, RR 2, Union City;
two brothers, Truman Ashley, RR 5, Portland, and Garland Ashley, Muncie; five
grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 1:30 p.m. at the
Williamson & Spencer Funeral Home. Rev. Tom Ford will officiate.
Burial will follow in the Little Salamonie Cemetery. Friends may call
at the funeral home after 10 a.m. Sunday.
