Bertie Raymond Bair, 42, well-known resident of Jefferson township, Jay county, met death early Saturday morning in an auto accident, near Chicago. He was driving a Ford roadster and was accompanied by another employee of the garage where he worked. In attempting to make a turn at a cross roads near Chicago Heights, shortly after midnight, he swerved his machine to the side of the road to avoid a collision with another car when his auto skidded into a ditch and turned over. His companion was thrown clear of the wrecked car, but Bair was caught beneath the steering wheel. Passing motorists assisted in removing him from the wreckage and rushed him to a hospital. However, he died while en route there. A coroners inquest revealed that death was due to a fractured skull. The other occupant of the car was only slightly injured. The machine was completely wrecked.
