HENRY METZGER DIES WEDNESDAY AT MUNCIE HOME
Apoplexy Proves Fatal to Former Resident of This County.
BORN IN GERMANY, OCTOBER 28, 1848
Henry
Metzger, a former resident of Jay County, died Wednesday morning at 9:10 o'clock
at the late home in Muncie. While in the business section of the city Friday he
was stricken with apoplexy and fell on the street. He was later removed to his
home, but never regained consciousness.
The deceased
was a son of Hermann and Annie (Dannenfelser) Metzger, and was born in Germany,
October 28, 1848. He came to the United States when about fifteen years of age,
and resided in Jay county for forty years, moving to Muncie about four years
ago. He was united in marriage to
Margaret Kleahn at Mansfield, O., March 18, 1871, who survives him, with the
following children: Geo. H. Metzger of Sturgis, Michigan; Henry J. Metzger of
Muncie; Chas. Metzger of near Boundary, and Mrs. Roe Houck of Muncie.
There are seventeen living grandchildren and the same number of
great-grandchildren. Three sons and two daughters are deceased. One brother,
John Metzger, of Philadelphia, survives.
