Father of Redkey Residents Dies
John Sherman Powell, 68, Indianapolis corporation attorney,
died Sunday at Robert Long Hospital there. He was the father of John S.
Powell Jr. and Mrs. Carl M. Hartman, both of Redkey
Mr. Powell, who attended DePauw
University
and who obtained his law degree from Michigan
University in 1910, was a World War I
veteran. He was a former vice president of United Telephone Co. and during
his career served as counsel for Indiana Bell Telephone Co. and Pennsylvania
Greyhound lines. He was a native of Elkhart.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Ruth Launer Powell.
Private funeral services will be Tuesday at an Indianapolis
mortuary. Other rites will be at 1 p.m.
Wednesday at Market
Street
Methodist Church
in Logansport. Burial will be
in Logansport.
Other survivors are another son, Capt. Roger D. Powell of the
Ft. Sill,
Okla., Army post; another
daughter, Mrs. William R. Matthews of Battle Creek,
Mich., and nine grandchildren
