(Nelson) Kraner at the Hospital
Mother of Portland Chief
of Police Dies Following a Short Illness
Mary Elizabeth
Kraner, wife of
Noah Kraner, died Tuesday at midnight at the Jay County Hospital
where she was taken Friday afternoon, following a stroke
of apoplexy which she suffered on Thursday. The deceased was a
daughter of William E.
and Sarah (Stranahan)
Nelson, and was born in Wayne township July 30, 1868. Her entire
life was spent in Portland and vicinity. She is survived by the
husband Noah Kraner; four sons,
Jesse and Edward
Loper, and Hascall and
Roy Lanning of this city. Two step-daughters,
Mrs. Goldie Williams and
Mrs. George Hildreth, of Muncie, and one step-son,
Robert Kraner of Oklahoma, also survive. There are ten
living grandchildren. Two brothers and one sister survive, they
being William Nelson of
Noble township; Charles
Nelson of Jefferson township, and
Mrs. Mike Hahn of Jefferson township. The body was
removed to the Baird funeral home, where it was prepared for
burial, and was removed to the family home on South Bridge
street, this afternoon. Funeral services will be conducted
Saturday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock from the Portland U. B.
church, in charge of the pastor
Rev. J. H. Nall. Interment will be made in the Claycomb
cemetery southwest of this city
