Thomas J. Nelson died rather suddenly at his west Water street home about 2
o’clock this morning. He had been ill of heart disease for the past year, but
was able to be up and about yesterday, and his death was unexpected. He was born
in Green township April 15 1877 [1875?] the son of James and Rebecca (Denney)
Nelson, both deceased. At the time of his death he was aged 56 years, 5? months
and 16 days. He had lived in Jay County his entire lifetime. Surviving are his
widow, Minnie (Hutson) Nelson, to whom he was married 36 years ago, and the
following children: Howard of Indianapolis; Pearl, wife of Paul Hoy, of South
Bend; Jack of South Bend; William of Portland; Elsie, wife if Roy Myers, of
Wetumka, Oklahoma; Selma and Effie, at home. Two daughters and one son are dead.
Three grandchildren survive, also one sister, Hulda, wife of James Burkey, of
Portland. Two brothers and four sisters are dead. The body was taken to the
Williamson funeral home, where it was prepared for burial and will be removed to
the late home this evening. Funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon at 2
o’clock at the Center U.B. Church, in charge of Rev. Lee Tyndall, assisted by
Rev. L.L. Rapp, pastor of the church. Interment in the church cemetery.
