Vera Mathews, 68, Dies After Illness

Mrs. Vera L. Mathews, 68, 1315 S. 21st St., died Sunday evening in Ball Memorial Hospital following an extended illness.  A native of Jay County, she was the daughter of Forest and Eva Powers.She was a member of Friends Meeting at Mooreland.

Surviving are her husband, Roland Mathews; five sons, Don and Forest L. Mathews, both of Riverview, Fla.; Ernest L. and Royce D. Mathews, both of New Castle, and O.D. Mathews of Eaton; her mother, Mrs. Eva M. Powers of Heritage Convalescent Center.  A daughter, Mrs. Bill (Helen) Cleveland died two weeks ago.

Also surviving are 14 grandchildren; one great-grandchild, several nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday in Mooreland Friends Church.  Friends may call at the Main and Frame Funeral Home in New Castle after 2 p.m. Tuesday and one hour before services at the church.  Burial will be in South Mound Cemetery.  Rev. Robert Shaffer will officiate and he will be assisted by Rev. Delbert Brown.
