Vernon Blakely Dies at Hospital


Vernon E. Blakely Sr., 74, 733 Tilmor Ave., died Tuesday in Ball Hospital.  A native of Celina, Ohio, he grew up in Redkey.  He once owned a clothing store there and later one at Winchester. He moved to Muncie in 1955 where he was employed as a sales representative for Unified Funds.


He was a member of Gethsemane United Methodist Church, Muncie Lions Club, and Delware Post 19, American Legion.  He was a World War I veteran.


He is survived by his wife, Mae W.; two daughters, Mrs. John E. Dunn and Mrs. Jane Pettyjohn; a son, Vernon E. Jr.; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild, all of Muncie.


Friends may call at Meeks Mortuary from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and before services there at 2:30 p.m. Thursday.  Rev. William Gierhart will officiate.  Burial will be in Gardens of Memory, north of Muncie.
