Obituary - not dated - estimated date 1900
Died at his residence June 14, 1900, William
B. Morton, aged 84 years, 4 months and 3 days, after an illness of
about seven years.
Brother Morton was born in Bedford County, Pa., Feb. 21,
1816, moved to Jay County, Indiana, in 1819, where he lived until the day of his
death. He was married to Sarah Jane
Loy, Nov. 4th 1869, in which relation they lived happily until April 17th, 1883,
when Sarah bid him goodbye and passed on before.
He united with the Church of Christ January 24th, 1877, where he
continued a faithful and loyal soldier for Jesus until death ended his life,
when peacefully he laid down his armor.
He was a
good man, with noble and kind nature, having friends but no enemies. Our hearts
are sad because of his absence, but the burden grows lighter when we think of
his triumph. For many years he
lived with his daughter and son-in-law, and how heavy was the burden for these
noble souls no one can ever know. He
leaves behind three brothers, one daughter and five grand-children to remember
him in sadness and love.
Services were conducted at the old church at Salamonia, by
Rev. Harter, where many of his friends had gathered to take one last look at the
earthly remains of him whom they had known so long and loved so well.
Sweetly rest, dear brother, until all that are in their grave shall hear
the voice of the son of God and shall come forth to that life that never ends,
where death cannot be and where sorrow can never be known.
