PARIS CROSSING SCHOOL MEMORIES
The following is from the records of Olive Lorraine Kenworthy Wallace, who was born June 10, 1902 in Mustang, OK. Her parents Frank and Minnie Kenworthy married in Howard Co. IN, but the family moved to Deputy and raised their children (the oldest being Olive Lorraine) on a farm.
Lorraine graduated from Deputy High School in 1921, earned her Rural Elementery Liscense in 1923 from Central Normal College in Danville, IN. She married John Wallace in 1925, he was a Rural Letter Carrier in Jefferson Co. She died in 1986 and John died June 10, 1973. They are buried in Lick Branch Church Cemetery near Deputy where they were active members.
One of Lorraine's first schools to teach in was Possum Trot, it was in Jefferson County. She taught at Paris Crossing 1946-1949. Then Hanover Elementery School and Deputy School 1957 until she retired in 1967.
Lorraine and Johnny did not have children of their own, but they played an important part in helping other children learn and grow. Here are some of the names, pictures and records she kept for years.
I want to Thank Mary and Larry Kenworthy of Greenwood, Indiana for contributing these records to the Jennings County Web Site.
