CARTER FUNERAL HELD MONDAY AFTERNOON
Civil War Veteran Died at Edinburg Saturday
EDINBURG, Dec. 20 Ð Funeral services for George
Carter, age 84, whose death occurred at his home on
South Keeley Street, Edinburg, Saturday morning at
8:30, after an illness of four weeks, were held this
afternoon at 2 o'clock from the late home. The
services were in charge of the Rev. Milburn. Burial
in Rest Haven Cemetery.
Mr. Carter is survived by his wife Mrs. Julia
Carter, one granddaughter, Mrs. Ruby Holbmier,
and two great-granddaughters, as well as several
nieces and nephews.
He was born in Illinois, July 4, 1842, and
when a young man came to Indiana where he enlisted
in the war of the rebellion and was a member of
Company K, 24th Indiana Infantry. He served three
years, from Aug. 11, 1862, to August 1865, and
at the close of the war returned to Edinburg where
he had since made his home. He was a member of
the local post of G.A.R.
