BLACK HISTORY PROJECT
The Black History Project Committee is trying to prove that there was an Underground "Station" in Madison County. With the knowledge that black abolitionist Fredrick Douglass visited the Pendleton area at least two times during his lifetime and was mobbed and nearly killed, Quakers and non-Quakers alike befriended him and cared for him until he recovered.
If anyone has knowledge of any Underground Railroad Activities in Madison County, please contact Phyllis Leedom at (765)-642-0187.
