Our historic logo was created by Helen Harvey Baumer. It carries great significance for the Adena-Hopewell and Indiana periods of the history of Madison County, Indiana. The three sections of the symbol specifically address certain aspects of those periods.
The Arrowhead represents the Adena-Hopewell who lived in the area during archaic times and who created the Great Mounds; the Peace Pipe is representative of the Leni-Lenape or Delawares; and, the Feather represents the peace which the Delaware so gallantly exhibited when they left this area in the 1820's in accordance with the Treaty of St. Mary's of October, 1818.
