James Martin Samuels, was born Aug. 26, 1863, and died at his home in Wash. Township, Friday Afternoon, Nov. 21, 1941. He was stricken in the woods near his home with a heart attack. Death followed before help could be obtained. Dr. J.L. DeNault pronounced death due to heart trouble.
He was the son of John and Elizabeth Samuels, residents of Marshall and Whitley Co, In. He was married to Alveretta Ecker in Ply. Ind. Feb 13, 1894. They began farming the followiong year in Marshall Co and have been on the farm either in Marshall or Starke Co. until the day of his death.
He was the father of 8 children, 2 from a former marriage to Sarah Fortune who preceded him in death. They were Ira and Oatis. By the latter marriage the following children were born: Millard, Evert, Jesse, Gertrude, Maude and Noah, all of whom are living. There are 39 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at 2:00 at the home of Noah (his son) in Plymouth, with Hite and Son Funeral HOme from Knox in charge of the service. Burial was in the Union Cemetery in Marshall Co. on St. Rd. 17.
