Morgan County Cemetery Index
The following cemetery listings are an accumulation of readings done by volunteers circa 1965. Helen Wildermuth put them in book form by township in the 1990's and Many others have worked to compile listings by visiting all known cemeteries in the county and adding data regarding their locations, conditions, and other factors. Librarians have diligently clipped obituaries over many years to add to the fund of information
If your ancestor was from Morgan County, consider also that some cemeteries have been lost due to remoteness, not having been well-known, or other abandonment. Look for other evidences in county records of your ancestors' lives.
Cemetery listings in the county will never be completed due to the inability to keep up with recorded burials from all sources. More recent burials are not generally found in these listings.
Cremated remains are not routinely buried, but they may be.
Human error plays a part in requiring more diligent searching. There have been errors in reading old, mostly-illegible tombstones as well as errors, omissions, or duplications in recording burials. Our organization is working to correct errors, but we recommend researchers look at several sources, including findagrave.com, newspaper obituaries, burial records or permits obtained from funeral homes, and death certificates from the health department where available. Ancestry.com has many records from Indiana, including death records. Remember that deaths were ordered by law to be recorded by 1907 but sometimes were not. All sources may have errors but can be compared.
Please note that a photo of a cemetery may not accurately represent current conditions.
