Young Family Letters: 1855-1908

The original letters are in the possession of May Kiefer, Van Nuys, California.

May is the granddaughter of Evan Young and her mother was Alice Mabel Young Smith. May has preserved the letters for family members and typed off copies for various people. These copies are transcribed from her typed copies. May copied the spelling and punctuation as was used in the letters.

The letters were written by Scott Young to his son and family, Evan H. Young. There are also letters from Evan's brothers and sisters. The Scott Young Family lived in Morgan County, Indiana and for some time Evan lived in Humbolt, Allan County, Kansas. There are also letters written by Evan to his third wife Jessie Eliza Brown Young when he was prospecting in Colorado and when he first went to California. The letters cover a span of years from 1850 to 1887 [1855 to 1908].

The letters have been transcribed onto the computer
by Patricia Louisa Young Brown in 1992.
