We are an active society that is committed to preserving the history of Lake County and Porter County in Indiana. We have some great resources for you in your research. SECRETARY NEEDED


NWIGS Secretary Dorothy Wodrich has had to resign due to health reasons. She has been a good secretary and a wonderful board member and will be missed.

We are looking for someone to fill the office of Secretary for the remainder of the 2011-2012 year.  The secretary is responsible for taking and preparing the minutes for the general and executive board meetings, which are both held monthly except in December.  The secretary is also responsible for maintaining the local members’ name tags for use at the monthly meetings

Please consider joining a wonderful group of officers and sharing your time and interest in our organization and in leading NWIGS to a bright future.  If you are interested in this position or for more information, please contact President Sally Phillips (at sdp2609@sbcglobal.net) or any other board member.


Upcoming Society Meeting Information


The Society meets each month from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. in either the Valparaiso Branch of the Porter County Public Library or the Lake County Library. Check the schedule below for the location.

Saturday, June 23, 2012, at 9:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. [Note earlier start time, sign-in begins at 9:15 a.m.]
Come and learn how to start your family history research. The Northwest Indiana Genealogical Society will be presenting "Beginners' Genealogy Workshop." Topics of the workshop include how to begin, sources to search, recording your research, census records, networking, and using the Internet to research. Registration is required by calling the Dyer-Schererville Library at 219-322-4731, or by email nwigs@hotmail.com. If you have any questions, then please contact nwigs@hotmail.com. The meeting will be held at the Dyer-Schererville Library located at 1001 West Lincoln Highway (Highway 30), Schererville, Indiana.
