PICTURES OF GOSSETT CEMETERY -- Before cleanup under the direction of Aaron Berlin

Bob Berlin <Arby4855@aol.com> reports that his son, Aaron Berlin, has completed his Eagle Scout community service project at Gossett Cemetery in Washington Township, Hendricks County, IN.  A hearty thanks and congratulations to Aaron on his successful completion of this project.

Gossett Cemetery is square, about 140 feet on a side.  The earliest confirmed burial was in 1836.  It contains a Rev. War veteran and a War of 1812 veteran.  The cemetery sits on the corner of a very busy intersection in the middle of the town of Avon.

Aaron Berlin's plan was to clean up a lot of old brush, remove and replace a very old and collapsing wire fence and replace the sign identifying the cemetery.  He received funding for his project from a group named Youth as Resources (a branch of the United Way) and from the Sons of the American Revolution.  Many other businesses and individuals also contributed time and materials.  We are especially proud of the new "sign" he arranged with a local monument company.

With the completion of this project, Aaron has fulfilled all of the requirements for the rank of Eagle Scout.  That paperwork is in the process of approval as of 01/27/2001.  This has been a great project for him and all who participated.  Avon is building a new elementary school right across the street from Gossett Cemetery, so we hope his fix-up effort can make the cemetery an attractive destination for teaching opportunities for the elementary classes.
