Okay, you clicked the link, you want to know. My name is Rebecca Elliott-Akens, I'm a 23 year old mom to 2 (with one on the way). I'm avidly interested in the histories of small communities and the stories of people. I was raised going to cemeteries for "fun" on weekends and have many memories of hanging out in libraries looking for something to do while my parents researched genealogy.
After spending years in Elkhart County and LaGrange County exploring the cemeteries I had become disheartened at the condition of some of them, particularly the Studebaker Cemetery located behind Twin Pines trailer park in Goshen. There's nothing like seeing the remains of a completely wiped out cemetery and wondering if anyone knows or cares.
I decided that if there wasn't a cemetery association in place for Elkhart County, I was going to make one. I did serveral searches on the 'net and was thrilled to find the INPCRP. I immediately asked to become the coordinator for Elkhart County and then decided I might as well take LaGrange too. The process was easy and volunteers are always needed, both as coordinators and to help the coordinators. If you're interested in becoming a county coordinator, you can email Scott Satterthwaite or Mark Mauk, the state coordinators. If you are interested in becoming a volunteer for Elkhart or LaGrange counties, drop me a note and I'll get in touch with you.
