John FletchalYaggi, 91, passed away Friday, May 24, 2013 at New Harmonie Healthcare.
He was born in Mt. Vernon, IN on March 9, 1922, the son of Ivan B. and Inez (Ashworth) Yaggi.
In 1935 Ivan Yaggi started the family owned business, Yaggi Plumbing and Heating, located at 123 Main Street, Mt.Vernon. At the age 13, John started learning the business
and had continued working actively with his brother and two nephews for the
last 70 years.
John is a 1940 graduate of Mt.VernonHigh
served in the U.S. Navy aboard the aircraft carrier, USS Langley. He is a
lifetime member of St. Matthew’s Catholic Church. He is the last surviving
charter member of Civil Defense Fire & Rescue of Mt.Vernon and served as chief firefighter for 18 years and a
volunteer fireman for 50 years. He was a charter member of the River City
Eagles 4023. He was a member of the Eagles #1117, American Legion Post #5, and
the Elks# 277, and also Order Owl Nest # 3.
He was preceded death by his
parents; wife of 53 years, Bonnie (Phillips), and his brother, James “Jack” Yaggi.
John is survived by his
daughter, Constance M. Sailer and her husband Jerel “Muff” of New Harmony; son, Brigadier General (ret.)
Ronald D. Yaggi and his wife Gerry of Annandale, VA;
grandchildren, Todd Freimiller and his wife Christine
of Sachse, TX and Danielle Storan
and her husband Sean of Arlington, VA; great grandchildren, CadenFreimiller and Sophia Storan.
He is also survived by nephews, Jim and Roger Yaggi;
a special friend Joan Roedel.

Funeral services will be at Tuesday May 28, 2013 at St. Matthew Catholic Church 421 Mulberry St.
in Mt.Vernon with burial to follow in St.MatthewCemetery.
Visitation will be from until
May 27, 2013 at Schneider
Funeral Home 512 Main St. in Mt.Vernon.
