MT VERNON - George Baker, 82, formerly of Mt. Vernon, died at 9 a.m. Thursday, Sep 18, at a hospital in Tennessee.


Baker, a veteran of World War I, was with the Civil Service in Guam for 17 years.


Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Juanita Burton of Mt. Vernon, a brother, Jack of Indianapolis; two sisters, Mrs. Mariona Hoge of Evansville and Mrs. Goldie Paul of Miami, Fla; three half-sisters, Mrs. Florence Scott, Mrs. Elnora Stevens and Mrs. Burnette June, all of Florida; two half-brothers, Robert Payne of North Carolina and Edward Payne of North Carolina and Edward Payne of Evansville; a grandson; two step grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
