Notes for GARVIN STEPHEN:

A descendant was finally found for this Indiana family.

Kathryn Moser put a message onto the Internet which Ken Stephen

forwarded to me. Kathryn lives at 2013 Kennedy Circle N.E.

Keizer, OR 97303

Phone 503-390-3655

Kathy descends through the Garvin Stephen line. She provided the four

children for Garvin and Sarah Tully.

This new information came on the 14th of Sept., 1997.

Did Garvin remarry? In the 1870 census for Randolph County, Indiana, he is shown with a Mary __________who is 47. This person is five years older than a wife Sally, shown on  a previous census.

Also, on the 1870 is an Alkania Watson, living with the Garvin Stephen family.

On the 1880 census, Garvin is listed as 63. His wife, Mary, is shown as 63 and as being born in Virginia. This "confirms" my suspicion that Garvin remarried. Sarah must have died. Counted in the same household are ___________Gilbert, 19, a grandson, and William, 13, and Mary Hastin 12, grandchildren.

Children of GARVIN STEPHEN and SARAH TULLY are:

13.              i.    JULIA ANN6 STEPHEN, b. 05 Feb 1850; d. Aug 1913, Madison, Indiana.

ii.    MARY I. STEPHEN, b. 1852, Randolph Co, Indiana.

                 iii.    ELIZABETH STEPHEN, b. 1854.

                 iv.    FRANCES STEPHEN, b. 1855.

Generation No. 3

5.  JAMES H.6 MILLER (ELIZABETH BETSY5 STEPHEN, ANDREW4, ANDREW3, ALEXANDER2, STEPHEN1) was born 16 Feb 1838 in Jay County, Indiana, and died 21 Mar 1923 in Anatone, Washington.  He married MARTHA MILLER 07 Jan 1859 in Lincoln County, Missouri, daughter of JACOB MILLER and ANNIE ZIMMERLY.  She was born 24 Dec 1838 in Wells County, Indiana, and died 17 Oct 1919 in Oregon.

Notes for JAMES H. MILLER:

Who was James' mother, Nancy or Elizabeth (Stephen(s)?? Nancy's

father, Francis, left money to the heirs of Nancy: Pollina and Alexan der,

but not to a James. James, however, was born in Feb. of 1836, a year

before David Henry's Miller's marriage to this second wife, Elizabeth

"Betsy" Stephen(s). Is James' birthdate incorrect? Was he illegitimat e?

It "appears" James Miller was born in 1838 and not 1836.

Nathiel, I do believe James Miller to be the child of David Henry Mil ler

and his second wife, Elizabeth Stephen. Elizabeth was the daughter of

Andrew Stephen and Sinah Carpenter. I've since discovered the ancestry

of Sinah Carpenter.  Her father was Robert Carpenter, her grandfather

was John Carpenter.

Jake Sharp's deathdate came from the 1907-1953 Montana Death Index which is on Ancestry.Com. Jake's death certificate # is Cho-1118.

20-0280N-0090E-024-160-015-251101PA-468131.

Jacob "Jake" Sharp's birthdate was August 9, 1873, in Arkansas according to his death certificate out ot Choteau County, Montana.  His parents possibly are Oliver and Adaline Sharp. The 1880 census for Carroll County, Arkansas, shows an Oliver Sharp and Adaline Sharp with a boy, Jacob Sharp, who was 6 years old.  The 1930 census shows that Jacob's parents, both, were born in Tennessee.

Notes for DELILAH (CELIA) MILLER:

There are conflicts concerning Delilah  (Celia's) birthdate. One date suggests 1843, another says Jan. 21st, 1837..in Missouri ( Missouri, I believe is incorrect)...it must be Indiana. Is her name Delilah or Selilah or Celia? On 16th of May, 2002, a phone call from Betty Brandt of Hermiston, Oregon, relates that the name was Selilah.
