In Salt Lake there is a pamphlet named the "Stephens/Carpenter

Families"..It is A1 #6072...when I visited in the spring of '93, it w as off

the shelf for cataloguing.  This was finally located in the spring o f '95.

It provided contacts--Frances Stoner and Lyle Sharp--to the Carpenter

line of Ohio/and earlier.

 

 

Francis Stephen, apparently the son of Francis, Sr., became the guardian for Francis Sr.'s youngest children in 1856. The minor children are listed as James, Barabara, John, and Andrew Stephen.

Notes for MARGARET PRYOR:

Information on Delphi (Internet) from _____________ shows that a

Francis Stephens (some listings shown as Stephenson) married a

Margaret Pryor. The Pryor family also came from Cumberland through

Greene, through Washington Counties of Pa. to Ohio. The Pryor famil y was

in Belmont and Monroe Counties of Ohio. The marriage between Francis

and Margaret took place in 1808. She died after 1828. This information

was provided in Feb. of 1995. Work continues to see if there is a

connection.

Notes for SAMUEL STEPHENS:

Charles S. Jones became the guardian of Samuel--minor heir of Francis Stephen--in 1851.

 

On May 20th, 1851, Samuel Stephen, minor heir of Francis Stephen, reached 21.  This is a record from the courthouse in Randolph County, Indiana.

 

In 1850 there is a Samuel Stephen who is 21 living with the George Worst family in Ward Township of Randolph County, Indiana. He is listed as a farmer. The census was taken on October 20th, 1850.

2.  SARAH "SALLY"5 STEPHENS (FRANCIS4 STEPHEN, ANDREW3, ALEXANDER2, STEPHEN1) was born 1810 in Ohio, and died 13 Dec 1847.  She married JOHN L. ADDINGTON 08 Nov 1832 in Randolph County, Indiana, son of JAMES ADDINGTON and N RUNYON.  He was born 1810, and died in Hardin County, Iowa.

                   i.    JAMES A.6 ADDINGTON, b. 11 Dec 1833, Randolph County, Indiana.

                  ii.    MATILDA A. ADDINGTON, b. 1835, Indiana.

3.  NANCY5 STEPHEN (FRANCIS4, ANDREW3, ALEXANDER2, STEPHEN1) was born 23 Feb 1811 in Monroe County, Ohio, and died 16 May 1836 in Randolph County, Indiana.  She married DAVID HENRY MILLER 17 Nov 1831, son of JOHN MILLER and CATHERINE MILLER.  He was born 08 Apr 1808 in Powell Valley, Carter County,  Tennessee, and died 1865 in Oregon.

PAULINA AND ALEXANDER MILLER WERE THE CHILDREN OF DAVID AND

NANCY (STEPHEN) MILLER. THE REST WERE THE CHILDREN OF DAVID AND

Union Co., Indiana, 1823: P. 24/Probate Order Book A..David Miller ov er

fourteen and orphan of John Miller deceased chooses Samuel Stover t o be

his guardian. Samuel was also appointed the guardian of John, Henry , and

Isaach Miller minor heirs of John Miller dec. Henry Miller was his

security. March 1823.

 

Union County, Indiana, March term, 1823..

And now comes this day David Miller a minor orphan of John Miller deceased late of said county and moved the court for leave to choose guardian and it appearing evident the court now hear that the said David is over fourteen years of age and within the age of twenty-one years and is therefore permitted to choose a guardian and makes choice of Samuel Stover for his guardian and the said Samuel Stover is accordingly appointed by the court now here as guardian to the said David Miller whereupon the said Samuel Stover comes into open court and enters into bond with Henry Miller his security for his good and faithful performance as guardian as aforesaid, and the said security is approved by the said court.

 

Information surfacing in May of 2002 tells that David Miller and Elizabeth Stephen Miller made it to Oregon. David was said to have died in 1870 with a rock for a stone. The stone was moved and lost.

4.  ELIZABETH "BETSY"5 STEPHENS (FRANCIS4 STEPHEN, ANDREW3, ALEXANDER2, STEPHEN1) was born 1817 in Ohio.  She married JAMES M. KALES 27 Dec 1838 in Indiana, son of DAVID KALES and ELIZABETH H..  He was born 1818 in Virginia.

       

Children of ELIZABETH STEPHENS and JAMES KALES are:

                   i.    JOHN L.6 KALES, b. 1839, Indiana.

                  ii.    NANCY J. KALES, b. 1841, Indiana.
