Carolina Feb, 9, 1808 he lived there until 1818 when he came to Randolph Co. with his grandfather William Way. His grandfather settled 4½mi west of Winchester. In 1833 he married and in 1835 went to Liberty, IN. His only heir is Susan Diggs, his sister. She is 16mo. older than him. His father was killed by being thrown from a horse in 1816 in So. Carolina.

She was born in No. Carolina July 29,1801; when a young lady she removed with her parents to Virginia where in 1828 she married Lewis Humes. Mr. Humes removed from Virginia to Champaign Co. in 1833 and from there to Mercer Co. in 1839 and have lived in the vicinity of Fort Recovery since. They had 5 children 4 of whom are living viz: Mrs. Elias Golder, Mrs. Jesse Denney, Mrs. Jackson Golder, and Mrs. Wm. H. Humes. Also her husband aged 78 years survives her.

FARSON H.C., Mrs.

Mrs. H.C. Farson, died at her home in Chicago, Nov. 29, aged 76y. Mrs. Farson with her husband, John T. Farson, were among the earliest settlers of Union City, coming here in 1852 or 1853. They removed to Champaign, IL in 1861, where Mr. Farson died in 1869 and a few years later the family removed to Chicago. Her second daughter Lucy E. is the wife of Bentley Masslich; other children are Mrs. A.O. Webber, Mrs. F.M. McKay, John & Luke Farson & Miss Elizabeth Farson, all of Chicago. Interment: Mt. Hope Cemetery.

Wm. A. Wiley, died at his res. on North Walnut St. last night. He was born in Darke Co., OH in 1834, when 2 months old. His father moved to IL and in a year they returned eastward settling in White Co. , IN among the Indians. After 9 yrs they moved to Howard Co. , IN and in a short time his father died at the age of 28, being the first white person buried at Kokomo. In 1860 he married Sarah Elizabeth, daughter of Felix G. Wiggs, in Indiana. They had 2 children. His father was Ezekiel F. Wiley, son of William Wiley, Esq. who was the brother of Rev. Thomas Wiley.

Elijah Devor, died at his home, 303 West Main St, Greenville, Friday. He died on his 65 birthday. He leaves to mourn his wife, 2 sons, H. W. Devor & Arthur Devor, of this city. He was the son of James & Patience Dean Devor, who were early pioneers in this county having come here at an early date. James Devor was the first Auditor of Darke Co from 1844 to 1847. Clara E. (Stump) Bothast, daughter of Frank & Adaline Stump was born in Darke Co, OH, March 6, 1892 and died at her home July 1, 1916, age 24y, 3m, 25d. She married Luther H. Bothast, Oct. 22. 1913, they had 1 son. Harold H. Oct. 6, 1914. When but 9yrs of age she was bereft of father and mother, after which she made her home with William McGill. She was of a family of 5 children, 1 sister having died in infancy. She leaves to mourn: husband, 1 son, 1 brother, 2 sisters, 1 grandfather.

BUTCHER John

John Butcher, of this city, died last Saturday, at the Seton Hospital, Cincinnati, OH. He was born on a farm near Cheshire, OH March 20, 1840, being 76y and after growing to manhood, he moved to this section & met & wed Susannah Constable, they being married at the home of the bride 12 miles north of this city, Feb. 27, 1861*?. He leaves a son, daughter, Mrs. George W. Patchell, of this city, Mr. A.E. Butcher, of Lafayette. A brother, sister, several grandchildren. Remains will be brought to this city.

Amos Cook died Monday, Jan. 12, 1916 at res. of son Harry Cook, 2½ miles south of this city, aged 65y, 3m, 18d. Interment: Union City Cemetery

Amos Cook was born on the old Cook homestead in Darke Co. , OH, near Union City Oct. 6, 1850 and died at the home of his son, Harry, Jan. 24, 1916, aged 65y, 3m, 18d. He married Eliza Andrews of Eaton, IN in the year 1875; they had 2 sons, the younger dying in infancy. Harry the older still survives. Amos was survived by wife, son Harry and wife, 1 granddaughter, Opal Cook, 2 half brothers.

She was one of 9 children and the last of the family; Sept. 8, 1853 she married George F. Parent. She was mother of 7 children: 3 sons, 4 daughters. She leaves husband, 1 son, 2 daughters, 7 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

RICHTER Christine, Mrs.

Mrs. Christine Richter, was born Dec. 20, 1828 at Duetzen, near Minden, Prussia. Her parents Frederick William and Christina Leubking, had her baptized when 6 days old giving her the name Charlotte Christena Elizabeth. She remained in the fatherland until 1855 when she came to Greenville, OH where she married Philip Ernst Richter. He died 1904; She died at the home of her daughter, Mr. O.F. Hart Jan. 9, 1916, aged 87y, 19d. 7 children were born to them, the youngest, Martha, died in 1878 at the age of 6; the remaining are Henry, Charles E., Christopher, Mrs. Christine Bickel, Mrs. Elizabeth Amspaugh, Mrs. Katharine Hart, all of whom live in this vicinity, but Mrs. Bickel, who resides in Indianapolis. 12 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren. Interment: Snell Cemetery.

STEWART Frank

Frank Stewart, died at Detroit, MI., son of B.F.W. Stewart. He was a brother of Mrs. Joe Gruber and Mrs. John Jenkins and a half-brother of Mrs. Susan Stilling of this city. He was born at Hollansburg, OH April 19, 1850. In 1869 he married Miss Josephine Milligan & in the following year he and his young wife moved to Detroit. Shortly after closing in Detroit, Mrs. Stewart died and the remains were brought here for burial.

SCHRICKER, Nellie

Mrs. Cal (Lambert) Swisher, received word today at Kalamazoo, Mich. Of the death of wife of her brother George Schricker, a former Union City boy. She was formerly Miss Nellie (Crumrine?) of Hillgrove and was 35 years old. Survived by her husband, 2 children Loreen and Raymond. (Prior to this was a notice of her giving birth a few days before.)

SWISHER Ibbie (Wiley), Mrs.

SWISHER, Mrs. Ibbie, wife of Alexander Swisher, died at her home on West Pearl St., last Sat. She had been an invalid for the past 15 years. Her maiden anme was Ibbie Wiley, she was the daughter of Rev. Thomas and Eleanor Wiley and was 1 of a family of 10 children; 5 of whom preceded her. Mrs. Ibbie Wiley Swisher, was born at Lisbon, Ind., Oct 5, 1848. When she was 17 years old the family moved to Union City, Sept 30, 1862, she married Alexanders Swisher. They had 3 children, 1 of whom only is living. Harry Swisher, of Bluffton, Ind. Survived by the husband, 1 son Harry, 4 sisters Mrs. Valentine Thompson of Gold Hill, ORE; Mrs. Dr. Thompson and Mrs. Anna Harlan of this cit; Mrs. Mary E. Vinson of Gas City, Ind.

SIMMONS Hazel Derla (Hawley), Mrs.

Hazel D. Simmons, wife of Gleamer Simmons, died Friday at the family home near Lisbon. Mrs. Simmons death was caused by peritonitis, following a few days illness. She was twenty-eight years old and is survived by her husband an infant son, Royon (Royal) Vernon, only a few days old. Mrs. Hazel Derla Simmons was born in Deerfield (IN), February 27, 1893, and her parents were William and Ella Hawley of Deerfield. She attended school in Ward township and Saratoga. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon from the home, conducted by Rev. Grubb, followed by interment in the Lisbon cemetery.
