On January 23, 1972, Anthony Campbell of Scottsburg was killed when the car he was driving
left State Road 56 as it approached a railroad overpass and sailed about 50 feet through
the air, landing on the tracks below. At the time police reported that the car may have
been traveling at a high rate of speed when it veered off the road. The impact of the
automobile damaged the track, causing the derailment which followed.
