Jessamine Co., KY, daughter of HENRY CAMPER and ELIZA CHOWING. She was born Abt. 1808 in KY, and died

his second wife, Sarah. However,
family records refer to John M. Noe as a "Christian preacher." He names his oldest son Jeremiah
Vardeman after a famous Baptist preacher of the Bluegrass region. Jeremiah Vardeman preached at David's
Fork Baptist Church east of Lexington, KY for many years. Vardeman was an associate of Alexander
Campell, Barton W. Stone, John Smith and other Christian reformers of the
day. John Noe must had heard some
of these well known ministers. We
do know that most of his children later were members of Christian Churches in
Clark Co., IN.

(Steve and I) visited Brandwine cemetery today, right on I-74. Very damaged by vandals, very damaged
by pollution - I wonder if the Interstate traffic pollution is what is eating
the stones away. One of the worse
cemeteries I have seen for this type of damage.
Cemetery
is on Frontage Road. Across I-74
from Faith Baptist Church on Michigan Road.
William's
stone is missing, but the base is there.
Located approximately middle section of larger side of cemetery (north)
and little more to the north than exact middle.

months 4 days. The stone is all
broken (3 pieces). She would have
been 57 when he was born, may be a grandson.

Lizzie
Christina Selmier, daughter of Henry and Willhelmina Selmier, was born near
Otto, Clark County, Indiana, May 24, 1863. She was married to John C. Noe on September 24, 1879. She united with the Salem M. E. church,
October 31, 1906. Departed this
life December 2, 1920, aged 57 years, 6 months and 8 days, being the first of a
family of seven children to be called home.
She
leaves her husband, four children, Minnie, now Mrs. Roscoe Lak, of Lizton,
Indiana, Henry, Nellie, and May; two grandchildren, three brothers, and three
sisters.
Her
life was spent mostly at home, and her work ws home duties, but we hope that
her influence in the world will still live. Through the principles of right living she tried to instill
into the minds of her children while they were young.
As
today we again think of death and know that sooner or later we must all face
it, may we all realize that is part of our work in the world to...
So
live that when our summons comes to join the innumerable caravan which moves to
that mysterious realm, where each shall take his chamber in the silent halls of
death, we go not, like the quarry slave at night, scourged to his dungeon, but

as living on the "Solon Young farm" near Charlestown, then owned by

Young Man Shot Through Heart at Sweethear's Home. Louisville, KY.,
November 23. Girth Spencer, aged
24 years, a young farmer living at Owen, IN was accidentally shot and killed by
Miss Ida Reinhart, to whom he was engaged to be married on Christmas day at the
girl's home in this city.
The
tragedy occurred shortly after Spencer had finished eating breakfast at the
Reinhart home. Miss Reinhart, her mother and Spencer were sitting about the
table talking when the conversation drifted to revolvers and their uses. Spencer said that he had no revolver,
whereupon Miss Reinhart said she had one and she went to a trunk and procured
the weapon.
There
were two bullets in the revolver and Spencer removed both of these before
looking at the revolver. He
snapped it several times and handed it to Miss Reinhardt, who also snapped it
several times. She then handed it
to her mother, who snapped it playfully.
Mrs.
Reinhart handed the revolver back to Spencer and he put the two bullets back
into it. Miss Reinhart did not see
him when he reloaded the gun. He
handed it back to her and she took it in her hands and again began to pull the
trigger, and the third time the cartridge exploded and the bullet sped straight
into the man's heart.

and acquired a common school education.
I. J. first worked on the Greenland
Ranch for A. B. Daniels who was the founder. When Mr. C. B. Kountz bought the Greenland Randch from
the Daniels Estate, I. J. became a partner with him in the cattle
business. In 1884 I. J. attended
the first National Cattle Association meeting in St.Louis, MO. The family still has I. J.'s medallion
from this convention. I. J. later
sold his interest in the cattle to Mr. Kountz and then worked as a foreman on
the Greenland Ranch.
January
17, 1890, I. J. purchased a ranch (200 acres) one and half miles west of
Greenland, CO and named it the Eagle Mountain Ranch. He raised registered Shorthorn cattle and became very well
known all over Colorado for his excellent stock. I. J. and his son Fred raised Shorthorn cattle until 1923
when I. J. retired from ranching and Fred took over the operation of the ranch.

on rented farms in Colorado until 1897 when he purchased a ranch three miles
southwest of Larkspur, CO. This
ranch of 715 acres was on the Fox Farm Road, which is the next road north of
the Noe Road. There was a family
cemetery on the ranch where some of the Noe family members were buried. Jerry's ranch was next to the Lamb
Ranch (owned by Carr and Anna Noe Lamb).
Jerry
raised cattle and cut timothy hay and alfalfa. He also continued his blacksmithing and horseshoeing
trade. In 1917 sold 320 acres of
his land then in 1926 he sold the J. R. Ranch and moved to California.

Family
tradition has it that as a young man he left IN and spent some years in the
west working as a cowboy in Colorado, probably on the ranch of one of his first
cousins who were the children of Isaac W. Noe.
The
story passed on in the family about James' sojourn to Colorado concerned a
prank that he and two other boys pulled one Sunday at church in Indiana. While the congregation was in the
church, the boys cut the harness of the horses. When church was over the people got in their buggies to go
home, but the horses walked right out of the buggy hitches and headed for
home. The family had to ship James
off to CO to some of his relation there.
Later on when the church people cooled off, James came back, but at the
time the people had talked about "tar and feathering" him!

Mrs.
Mary Ellen Bussey, age 76, died at 1 P.M., Thursday, October 21 at her home in
Marysville, Indiana following a lingering illness.
She
was the daughter of Harvey adn Rhoda Stark Noe, and the widow of the late
George Bussey, well known citizen of that section.
Many
friends and neighbors will miss the many little acts of kindness and her help
in the affairs of the church and community.
The
children who survive her are:
Perry L. Bussey, Arley F. Bussey, Oscar C. Bussey, Mrs. Mae Graves and
Mrs. Marietta Trapp, all of Marysville.
Her
brother, Clarence Noe, Nabb, and 15 granchildren and 18 great grandchildren also survive.
The
Rev. C. M. Hannah conducted the funeral Sunday at the Marysville Christian
chruch, with
burial
in charge of L. B. Stewart and Son at the Lexington cemetery.

on the Greenland Ranch and the Eagle Mountain Ranch and was educated in Douglas
County Schools. Attended business
school in Denver for one year. The
one room school he attended is the same his children and some of his
granchildren attended.
When
Fred began managing the ranch it had 1,120 acres. He expanded it to 1,440 acres. He became well known and respected for the registered
Shorthorn cattle he raised. He was
a member of the Greenland School Board No. 23 for more than 30 years and he was
a member of the American Shorthorn Association.
Fred
retired from ranching in 1968 and moved to Grand Junction, CO where his
daughter, J. Katheryne and her family were living. His son Jim took over the operation of the Eagle Mountain
Ranch.

Reason:
For
heroism in connection with military operations against an armed hostile force
in the Republic of Vietnam. On 12 July 1967 Private First Class Noe
distinguished himself while serving as a Medical Aidman in Company B, 1st
Battalion, 12th Infantry. From the time he was attached to the unit in June
1967, Private First Class Noe's actions were indicative of his professionalism
and his dedication to the unique mission of the Medical Aidman. He consistently
put the health and well-being of the men of his platoon above his personal
needs or safety, often exposing himself to hostile fire as he attempted to help
his comrades. His remarkable skill and knowledge were uncompromised even in the
most exhausting and difficult circumstances. On 12 July 1967 Private First
Class Noe's platoon made contact with a major North Vietnamese Army force and
was subjected to intense mortar and automatic weapons fire. Facing overwhelming
hostile forces, the platoon drew up in a defensive perimeter and began its
courageous defense. As the enemy inflicted an increasing number of casualties
on the platoon, Private First Class Noe moved from
position
to position through the heavy fire to render aid. He continued heroically to
help the wounded until he received a mortal wound. Private First Class Noe's
courage and dedication to the welfare of his fellow men are in keeping with the
highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit on himself,
his unit and the United States Army.

On
12 July 1967, the 1st Battalion, 12th Infantry, was engaged in the Ia Drang
Valley by a battalion or larger force from the 66th NVA Regiment. When engaged,
the 1/12's three rifle companies were physically separated, allowing the enemy
force to attack the companies individually - B Company and C Company were
isolated and taken under attack. Although C Company suffered only minor losses
(5 wounded and none killed), B Company took heavy losses. PFC Noe was one of 33
men who died that day.
