| Matthias was born
in 1761 in New Jersey. Matthias married Mercey Shaw November 27, 1783 at
the Presbyterian Church at New Providence, New Jersey by the Rev. Jonathan
Elmer. (Genealogical Magazine of New Jersey Vol. 19-21 pub. 1944-46.)
Matthias and Mercey had the following children who are listed in Matthias’s will recorded in Tippecanoe County, IN: John Bapt.25 May 1788; Abigail, bapt. 25, May 1788; Phoebe, bapt. 25 May 1788; Mary Polly, bapt. 26 June 1791; Matthias; and Nathan. A Genealogical Index of Miami Valley Pioneers, Ohio, shows that Matthias Parsons was a first settler of Passaic Valley and that he moved to the Big Miami River, Ohio. History of Montgomery Co., Ohio by Beers published in 1882, page 281 shows Matthias on the tax list of Dayton Twp. Hamilton Co., Ohio and in 1803 and in 1810 listed Matthias in the early Ohio tax list in Washington Township in Montgomery Co., Ohio. In 1830 Matthias was listed the Tippecanoe County Federal census. Matthias served in the in the Revolutionary War as a Private in Col. Oliver Spencer’s Regt. from New Jersey and he received a pension August 30, 1828.
