Maryannette Smith Schneider


Maryannette Smith was born in Lafayette, Indiana and raised there until she was three years old when her father Bert R. Smith, who was working for the Lafayette Gas & Electric Company he was transferred to Monticello, Indiana. This was and the first of several more moves all in the state of Indiana .   After Monticello came Fowler, East Gary , then Hammond and finally Valparaiso .  After graduating from high school she attended Ball State Teachers College in Muncie , Indiana , and then returned to Valparaiso for employment.  After WW II started she was sworn into the US Marine Corps Women Reserves.  Following discharge two years later she returned to her former employer.   She married a high school classmate Herbert C. Schneider in 1948.  In 1955 when their first son was a year old, the family moved to Redwood City , CA. There two more sons were born.  Herbert died in 1997, 49 years and one week after they were married.  She has one grandchild.

She is researching the following families in Tippecanoe County , Indiana : 

Thomas D. Smith was born 04 Oct., 1846 in Pickaway County , Ohio ; he migrated with his family in 1850 from Ohio to Miami , County Indiana .  The 1860 census reports that he and his mother, Catharine (Hott) Smith, were in Lafayette , Tippecanoe County , Indiana .  Thomas married Mary Malinda Nevelle on 11 April 1867 .  The couple had eight children: three died in infancy, and one, Miss Carrie, met with an accidental death.  Mary died 22 June 1914 , and Thomas died 03 April 1934 .  They are buried in Battle Ground Cemetery ; Thomas is in Central Plat row O, grave 12. He served in the 151st Indiana Volunteer Infantry, Co. D.  Surviving children: Anna Lytle, Charles A. Smith, Bert R. Smith (my father), and Claudine Smith.


Charles E. Neville was born in
Port Royal , KY in 1818; he migrated to Newton County , Indiana and married Olivia Ann Simms on 26 Oct 1842 .  Ten children were born to this union:  Judea Elizabeth Neville-Stewart, Nancy Ann Neville-Bonebrake, Nancy Neville-Johnson, Mary Malinda Neville-Smith, Matilda Frances Neville-Marshall, William Stewart Neville, Charles Thomas Neville, Susan Ellen Neville-Jackson, Leila Ada Neville-Bitting and Estelle Neville-Jackson.  Charles died in Nov. of 1891 in Hannibal MO. and is buried in Pretty Prairie Cemetery in Tippecanoe Co. His wife Olivia died in 1880 and is also buried there.


Charles Johan Feldt was born
31 July 1847 in Jonkoping , Sweden ; he immigrated to the US aboard the City of Limerick in 1868.  He became a naturalized citizen in 1870. He died on 21 Nov. 1840 and is buried beside his wife in Springvale Cemetery .  He married Charlotta Plantine Grep Carleson on 14 Jan, 1874 in Lafayette, IN. Charlotta was born 22 Sep 1846 in Jonkoping , Sweden ; she immigrated to the US in 1872. She died 22 Feb. 1929 and is buried at Springvale.
