Shumaker family cemetery project
2003-2009

Shumaker cemetery is located in Wea township on County Rd. 800 South & 450 East on the north east side of the intersection behind the white  barns.  Our project goal will be to resemble these stones that have been removed from their locations and to restore it to the best of our abilities.  Support from the new owner and trustee have given us this wonderful opportunity.  We thank them both and all the great volunteers that contribute their time and labor who will help us put back our pioneer history and make it available for future generations.   A special thank you to the local Order of the Arrow troop for all the continued support on this pile of history.  I can't thank you enough!   For further questions on this project email  L.A. See our progress links below.    Here is the burial list with updates  Burial list on Find-A-Grave
I updated this every workday

June 2003.  The stones are somewhere in this trash pile that was stacked years ago.

AUGUST 9, 2003  The first workday.   Thank you everyone you were really great help!

AUGUST 23, 2003
Our second workday we found several more family stones. What a great
crew.  Thank you all for your help, YOU WERE ALL WONDERFUL!

20 family names have been found so far.  And a few new hints of other pioneers that we didn't know about.   We sure
have our work cut out on this one.  See the other workdays below.

I am thankful for everyone who came to work with me. It has taken longer that I though due to health problems.  I really feel we have something good here at the end.  The research was done by Joyce Corns-Weigand and she has connected most everyone to Daniel Shumaker.  Most of the children are grand or great-grandchildren.  I am also in the process of adding the family lines to Ancestry.com along with the tombstones.
"Daniel Shumaker Family Tree_ Virginia to Tippecanoe County Indiana"
This tree will help identifies how each one is connected.   To date {9-20} I have not found where Daniel Shumaker {1790-1847} was born. It seems possible George Shumaker {1805-1876} could be his younger brother that migrated with him.   If anyone knows the parents, please email me.  All the names and tombstones are on the Shumaker Find-A-Grave site linked above.    Daniel was the original land owner who purchased 80 Acres from the Crawfordsville land office on 2 Apr 1829 and another 80 on 10 Apr 1829.  This cemetery is an original family farm.  From the biographies we have found on some members of Daniels family it show a migration from Rockingham County Virginia to Ross County Ohio.  Not sure if there were other stops between these two.
