SPEECH TOPICS

#1 - NO Vital Records - There were periods when vital records were not required.  There were also occasions when fires, floods, vermin or wars destroyed records.  Where can the genealogist turn?  Other public records, cemetery records and tax records are only a few of the alternatives available.  In this case, imagination, initiative and desire are all it takes to travel these "Genealogical Detours."

#2 -  Migration - Before modern technology provided us with the ability to fly over mountains, rivers, lakes and other obstacles, our ancestors were confined to fewer routes in a quest for better land and the greater opportunities this nation had to offer.  A study of these migration patterns may provide the clue to an ancestor who disappeared, why they moved and the route they took, or you may find an obscure record along the route.  Travel was difficult and the "scenic southern route" was not one of their early choices.  When the pineer moved, it was for a purpose, and also over a known route.  This speech will help the re-searcher determine why, and which route would be the most logical route.

#3- Genealogy Trips - Most of us have limited time on vacations and weekend trips to do genealogical research.  How to get free material and planning your schedule are discussed.  A checklist is included, as well as hints on background research prior to departure.  Proper planning can not only save you money, but will allow you more time to search in those obscure records.
